I thought that creating this might create a redundancy with my +Turin Turambar G+ profile. But, having used Google+ for, about, a year, now, I have to say that I've never been crazy about what a pain in the ass it is to find older posts that have scrolled off of the bottom.
I guess if you want to write opinion pieces, or anything else that is to be sensibly archived, then, it is best to use a blog.
